Transmission tuning...

Beitrag von Zollie »

Hi,

I am brainstorming a bit how to get my 32b TDI to run lower RPM's

What are possibilities?

*find MV, 5M, 2M... in europe. Think this is hard, but worth a try.

*install B4 transmission, It's a lot of work.

But... The 5cyl engines had transmissions with heavier gears, and lighter end-drive.
Is it possible to put the gears of a 5cyl transmission onto the axes of a 3M/2N tranny?
So you get the heavier gears of a 5cyl transmission onto the 4,111 drive of a 3M. In the 3M housing?

both are 013 transmissoins?

who knows or has experience?

Hi,

I think the TDI engines like 1Z, AFN or AHU needs the newer Gearbox housing style from B4 Body Audi 80. It´s very similar to the 5-Cyl. gearbox housing, maybe same. The older style 4-cyl. 32b gearbox housings (fitting to the EA827 engine block) is smaller.
IMHO the best way ist buying a Audi 80 B4 TDI and parting it out. So you can use the whole front axles including hydraulic operated clutch etc.

To me the 32b 5cyl and 32b 4cyl gearboxes look the same. Only the connection to engine is different...

I got a 2N gearbox connected now, so it will fit.

But will the gears from a 32b 5cyl gearbox fit in a 4cyl housing?

Will the single gears from a 5cyl fit onto the final drive of a 4cyl?

That would be perfect!
